Joshua prefers the black & white because the reflection on the snow is brighter.
I agree with that, and also prefer the b&w because the contrast is stronger and because the colors in the color version are not particularly striking, IMO.
The black and white is my preference. The colour photo is a little difficult to look at.

i am usually a black and white girl, but i like the colour one better here.
while the black and white is more moody, I think the colour one does a better job of capturing the subject of the picture, and that is the setting sun.
