For A Laugh

Three men hiking through the forest...

across a raging and violent river they needed to cross.

Each prayed to God.

The first prayed, "God give me strength to cross the river." God miraculously gave him extra strong legs and arms. He struggled in the current, he walked where he could but most swam his way. Two hours later and almost drowning several times he made it to the other side.

After witnessing the near death of the first man, the second man cried, "God, give me the strength and the tools to cross the river."
And God gave him a kayak, strong arms, strong legs and agility,

After fighting the river for an hour and almost flipping four times, the second man arrived on the other side exhausted.

The third man seeing the struggles of his friends prayed differently, "God grant me strength, tools and intelligence to cross the river."
And God generously granted him his prayer and within moments he was transformed into a woman. With new insight, the map was carefully checked.

She noticed that there was a bridge two hundred yards upstream. She hiked two hundred yards and crossed the river with a smile on her face.

Guys, when you don't first succeed, take a deep breath and do it the way your wife first suggested.

Would You Claim Him As Your Son?

I laughed when I saw this last night. If this was my son….I would not know him.

Going For the Close-up

At Ohio State one of the traditions is for the band to spell out Ohio in the pre-game. It is a great honor to be the sousaphone chosen to dot the “i” with flare and finishing with a bow. Watch what happened this past weekend when the cameraman got a little too close.

Thanks Josh for drawing this to my attention.

An Effective Ad - Not! - But One That Would Be

Following is an advertisement from 1919. Whoever designed this item was out of touch with reality. If you were a guy and drank would their promise persuade you?

I can hear young men sitting seeing this ad and saying, "I'll start drinking if it will keep these ladies from kissing me."

Now something more along the lines of the following would have made a more persuasive impact.

A Fun Moment

Picture a hot humid mid September afternoon in Kentucky, a stuffy classroom built for 30-35 crowded with almost double that number of students sitting in thin old wooden chairs in tight rows with rows no more than an arm’s reach between rows, and it is the 3 PM class on a Friday at this faith based college. While the windows are wide open in this old building that classroom lacks air conditioning, the air is so still outside that a Kleenex resting on pavement makes no movement. Now add in a professor who is somewhat soft spoken and who is about 35 minutes into the 50 minute lecture with dozens of students fighting not to nod off. Add into this mix that this professor teaches Bible and has been known from time to time to pause his lecture to prayer.

Put into this mix a student who was losing his battle remain cognizant of his surroundings and an impish sophomore who is sitting behind him.

As the student nods again, he is tapped and hears a whisper in his ear, "He wants you to lead us in prayer."

The suddenly aroused student shoots up like a jack in a box into a standing position and immediately starts, "Our heavenly Father." Hearing others giggle at the interruption the student pauses and realizes he has just interrupted the lecture.

The elderly professor was not alarmed. He merely added, "As the Spirit so moves brother, please continue."

After praying, as the student takes his seat he looks back at his grinning dorm mate promising revenge.

They say confession is good for the soul. I do not know about that but it sure brings back a warm memory of Dr. Hunter saying "As the Spirit so moves brother, please continue." As to the revenge he never really got his revenge but I do know he never sat that close to me ever again.

Congress' God-like Power

For those who are needing a good laugh, following is a letter to the editor that was published in the Arkansas Democrat from April 24, 2007. You really have to wonder about some people's reasoning, particularly when the data goes through one's political bias.

Daylight exacerbates warming

You may have noticed that March of this year was particularly hot. As a matter of fact, I understand that it was the hottest March since the beginning of the last century. All of the trees were fully leafed out and legions of bugs and snakes were crawling around during a time in Arkansas when, on a normal year, we might see a snowflake or two.

This should come as no surprise to any reasonable person. As you know, Daylight Saving Time started almost a month early this year. You would think that members of Congress would have considered the warming effect that an extra hour of daylight would have on our climate. Or did they?

Perhaps this is another plot by a liberal Congress to make us believe that global warming is a real threat. Perhaps next time there should be serious studies performed before Congress passes laws with such far-reaching effects.

CONNIE M. MESKIMEN

Evidently Ms Meskimen thinks that Congress has god-like power in that it can magically increase the amount of daylight and change the weather. LOL
